Pregnancy – Weeks 29-34

Yea, yea, I know this one is 6 weeks instead of 4, but I’ve been busy growing a baby and stuff.  I’m tired!

Dec. 4th was my baby shower that my sister-n-laws Holly and Kristen threw me. It was a Beatles Yellow Submarine theme and very cute!  I am so lucky to have such great inlaws since I don’t have any sisters.  Also, the gypsy-esque lifestyle Brad and I have lead hasn’t exactly made it east to forge too many awesome friendships close to “home,” so I’m grateful for my family! (and my close friends, of course, but you guys are so spread out!)

Dec. 5th the note I have in my journal is “laughed all day with Brad and Charlie.”  I don’t remember what about, but we have fun, apparently :)

34 Weeks!

Week 30-Brad worked on finishing up the painting in the nursery. It’s a musical staff with notes and records.  He is such a perfectionist; I had to constantly remind him that a 1 month old really won’t notice if a line isn’t 100% straight.  I absolutely love the finished product!  This week the baby has really put movin’ around constantly as a high priority in his day, and his night for that matter. He’s a squirmy little buggar!  I’m starting to get heavy, low pains when I stand up, and we had to cut our walks short by 1/2 a mile or so this week.

Week 31- I had some blood in my urine a couple days before our Dr. appt this week, so she did a cervical check.  Thankfully everything is still closed! She said it could have been cause by many things, but in the end it wasn’t anything to worry about, whew!  We did find out, though, that Sprout has moved from his comfy head down position into transverse position (sideways.)  This explains my INTENSE increase in back pain recently and inability to sleep.  For those that know me, I have NEVER had trouble sleeping.  I can sleep in any position, on any surface, in any conditions, with any amount of noise and commotion.  But this last week, I can’t stay asleep more than 45 minutes if I’m lucky! It’s not because I need to pee; it’s because I am in so much pain!  My hips pop with every minute movement and the knife that is apparently lodged in my back is constantly, yet ever so slowly, grinding baaaaack and foooooorth.  So I get out of bed and get on all fours on the floor and arch my back.  This is the ONLY position in which I feel zero pain.  Oh well.  I know if will all be worth it…only 9 more weeks!

Week 32- Brad is in Nashville all week recording his next album, his first as Bradley James without the Five Times August label.  I miss him so much!  But it just doesn’t make sense for me to go with him and stay in a hotel with Charlie when we can be home and close to the hospital and our doctor if necessary.  So I will suck it up :)  My mom came over one day this week.  It was so nice to have her all to myself to talk baby stuff with!  She is so busy with so many other people all the time, I don’t usually feel like I get any real time with her because she is always distracted.  I loved having it be just me and her; we haven’t had that in years and it was so nice. I wish she could pull away from all her other commitments more often :)  I’m still not sleeping and it is taking it’s toll. I’m cranky and miserable…wanna hang out?? Haha.
Christmas Eve we spent with Brad’s family and Christmas Day with my family.  I tried to soak in and embrace every moment with Brad, since it’s our last holiday without kids.  I think we succeeded and made some great memories!

31 weeks!

Week 33 – Still awake all night. This is getting old.  I need sleep, dangit.  A highlight this week is that thanks to Xmas gift cards and after holiday sales, we got all 8 Harry Potter movies on Blu-Ray, yay! Now, my fantastic hubby I’m sure would have preferred to spend them on other things, but he never said so and indulged me :) So this week we watched a HP movie each night.

I don’t remember week 34, ha!!  That’s kind of sad!  Oh well.  More updates to come. G’night.

Pregnancy: Weeks 25-28

27 Weeks Pregnant

At the beginning of November we made a trip to Ikea to get some things for the nursery, and we also got a nice rocker recliner from Sam’s.  I hear you sleep a lot in the rocker, so I wanted something that was really comfortable, but also something we could move to the living room in a year.  I think we succeeded with this purchase!  I’ve been super busy with work lately, and haven’t had time to do much of anything.  But when my head hits the pillow every night, and I see Brad to my right, Charlie at my feet, and feel Sprout bouncing around around in my belly, I feel so happy and content!  Brad had to fly out for a few shows this month, and I never sleep well when he’s gone.

One day soon after Brad was back home and we had put the crib together, we heard a loud bang in the nursery.  We were both in our offices, and thought something must have fallen. No, no no.  Our curious Charlie had JUMPED into the crib without a mattress!  I wasn’t surprised, because he’d be a gold medal olympian if he was human. I am just so thankful he didn’t hurt himself by falling through the wires. Crazy boy :)

Charlie felt compelled to explore the crib

On Sunday, Nov. 20th, I went out to get Starbucks, and came home to a dozen roses.  Brad had gotten them for my 30th birthday which was later in the week, Nov. 24th. About an hour later there was a knock at the door and it was my parents.  Turns out Brad and my folks had gotten me a present and wanted to surprise me. It was a blue topaz and diamond necklace and earrings set.  Oh man, I am a lucky girl!  I never spend money on myself, and they all know that, and it meant so much to me they got me something I had been wanting but never would have purchased! I LOVE IT.

We had an appointment on Nov. 22nd and Sprout’s heart rate was in the 150′s.  He’s growing and swimming around in me all the time.  That was my last monthly appointment.  From here on out, it’s every 2 weeks. Ahh! I can’t believe I’m in the last trimester.  In 2 1/2 months, I’ll have a baby…It STILL hasn’t sunk in, and I don’t think it will for me until he’s actually here, in our house, and has a name.  Nov. 24th was Thanksgiving and my birthday.  For the first time I took a nap after Thanksgiving dinner. I say it was only because I’m pregnant, since I don’t eat warm turkey.

The baby shower is this week and I’m excited!  That’s all for now, folks!

23 Weeks Pregnant

I must start by saying I hate hearing people say “you’re eating for 2″ as an excuse to eat 2 of everything.  You don’t need that many more calories a day, just a few hundred, and you should be eating BETTER because you’re nourishing a growing baby. Wellllll, for the first time in my life, I ate an entire (pineapple and bell pepper) medium Domino’s pizza.  Oct. 4th will be a day I always remember, because I never thought I would do something like that; ever.   My stomach never felt full.  Even after I finished, I could have eaten something else! OH.MY.GOD. I thought to myself…this is how it happens!  I used to judge those pregnant woman who gained 50+ pounds as careless and weak, but now I get it.  The “full” button is out of service.  So it’s really up to me, more than ever, to be careful and conscientious of what I’m putting in my body.  This is going to be a tough 19 more weeks on the food front, but I am UP FOR THE CHALLENGE!

22 Weeks Pregnant

Oct. 11-14 we flew to California.  As I normally do on flights, I slept the whole way.  Not until hours after we landed and I went to take a bath did I realize another “myth” of pregnancy…SWELLING! I say myth because I didn’t expect it to happen to me.  I’m learning I’m not immune. Blah. Anyway, when I took my socks off, between my knee and my calf, was a HUGE lumpy ball of fluid all the way around.  It was so gross!  The weird thing was, though, it wasn’t painful.  I laid with my legs up and Brad rubbed my legs, and after about an hour I was good as new.   Whew!  We spent the day enjoying Newport Beach and went to bed early.  Wed. Oct. 12th, Brad felt the baby kick, several times, for the first time! It was so awesome to see Brad’s face light up each time he felt it!  He laid his head right above my stomach and held his hand on my belly, curling up into me more and more every time he felt our son.  We fell asleep on cloud 9 :)  The next day we went to Laguna Beach and ended up just laying in the sand holding hands, staring at the stars and listening to the waves for what seemed like forever. It was very peaceful.  I love Bradley James Skistimas more and more every second, and am so in awe that we’ve created a life together.  I’m thankful every day I found my soulmate and I get to have a life so full of love.  This was a short trip, but probably our last as a couple without kids, and it was magical.

21 Weeks Pregnant

And, now were back to reality.  I have a problem saying no to people, and tend to take on way more than I should.  Well, after a very busy couple of days where I thought I was superwoman, I HURT my back.  I’ve never really been one to have back pain, but this got to the point of being in tears.  I hurt it Oct. 15th, and it’s no better. I think I’m just adjusting to deal with it.  So now I am a typical pregnant woman who has a bad back and eats whole pizza’s and swells; oh, and limps because of sciatica.  Hehe, this is what I get for judging.  To all the pregnant woman I previously judged when I was a non-waddling, non-swelling, healthy eating fit woman, my sincere apologies.

Brad and I are still taking walks every night, about 2 1/2-3 miles, but I am getting slower.  It’s a great de-stresser and I plan to keep it up until baby boy arrives.  On our walk on Oct. 21st, we found a sweet puppy by a dumpster, who had a collar on but no tags.  She just joined our party and started walking right alongside Brad, like she’d been his for years.  She followed us home and we brought her inside to eat.  It poured rain that night so I am so glad we found her.  Since she had a collar we thought someone MUST be looking for her.  So we made FOUND flyers and plastered the neighborhood and took one to all the shelters and pet related places in our town.  No calls.  So we took her to the vet and had her checked out (all healthy) but there was no microchip when she was scanned.  After 5 days, no one had called to claim her.  It was looking like we’d be holding on to her.  But my pregnancy related hormones had me balling every day worried about this sweet dog.  I felt so overwhelmed because there is so much on my plate right now.  I want to keep her, but I don’t have time to devote to her.  This was a rollercoaster of an emotional week.  Those that know me know how passionate I am about animals, and my heart was being ripped out, by ME, because I didn’t feel I could handle another dog right now.  ”How selfish,” I’d think to myself, about myself, when I said things about being too exhausted and busy to train and teach a new dog.  I am not going to go on, but this was one of the hardest weeks I’ve ever had.  In the end, we found her a WONDERFUL home, with the vet tech at our vet’s office!! So she is well taken care of and loved.

Baby boy is still nameless! He’s doing great and moving and kicking all the time.  We had an appointment Oct. 28th and his heartbeat is good and strong. He’s measuring 10 days ahead, so I’m hoping this means he’ll come early and not just be a big baby!  I took my 1 hour glucose test and passed.  This means nothing to you if you aren’t pregnant, but it’s good I passed!  Well that’s it for now.  Enjoy the pics below of our California trip and Tillie the puppy :)

Pregnancy – Weeks 17-20

20 weeks pregnant

So I’m smack dab in the middle of the second trimester.  Sept. 9th at our appointment Sprout’s heartrate was in the 140′s.  I do love hearing that sound!  The weather in Texas is starting to cool off, so we can go for our walks around sunset instead of well after dark.  On Sept. 13th I heard Brad whispering to the baby, “I promise to be the best dad and always take care of you.”  It made my heart melt, because I already know Brad is going to be fantastic.  He’s so playful himself and all of our nieces and nephews love him and think he’s the most fun grown up ever. Our oldest niece, Lylli, once said she liked hanging out with us so much because even though we have grown up bodies we act like kids because we’re silly and not grumpy.  Love her :)

18 weeks pregnant

Around 17-18 weeks I was just feeling little flutters occasionally.  I’ve read 4-5 months is really where you start feeling movement, and boy did I at 19-20 weeks!  Sprout is pretty calm throughout the day except when I’m leaning forward, then I feel a light kick or punch as if to say, “Sit up!  Give me some room in here!”  But early morning and late at night is when I feel the most!  They’re not strong enough yet for Brad to feel…so far it’s all internal.  Soon he’ll be able to feel it, too, though! I know he wants to, because some mornings I wake up to his hand on my tummy, just waiting to feel some movement.  It’s adorable; I love Brad!!

“Be My Baby” by the Ronettes is the only song played to my tummy through headphones this month, but the baby is constantly hearing Brad play and sing :)  I’ve been having trouble sleeping the last couple of weeks because my left arm keeps going numb, I have really bad sciatica pain and am just overall uncomfortable.  Is this a small tease of what’s to come?? Yesh.

17 weeks pregnant

Sooo, Sept. 30th was our anatomy scan ultrasound. This is where they measure the baby all over to make sure they’re growing on track, and also check the vital organs  for abnormalities.  We were running about 5 minutes late so I had Brad drop me off then he would park and meet me up in the doctor’s office.  My doctor is awesome (Dr. Rachel Kurian at Baylor Dallas if anyone needs an OB!) and normally we don’t have much wait if any.  We get called back within 5 minutes, check weight, blood pressure and leave a urine sample, then go to the exam room.  So I figured by the time Brad made it up there I’d still be getting those things checked.  Well, not today!  They took me STRAIGHT to the ultrasound lab! Noooo! I said “My husband is on his way, can we please wait?!?!?!”  The lab tech had to get started to keep the appointments on schedule, but she said she’d just do measurements and not the gender until Brad was there.  The gel was warm (nice touch!) and I immediately saw my baby’s face….wow!  WOW! It looked like it was smiling, and I almost cried. Right then Brad knocked on the door.  He walked in, saw the baby on the screen and grabbed my hands; it was an awesome family moment!  Then it was time. The tech found the butt and started bouncing the transducer on my belly to make the baby open it’s legs.  It wouldn’t.  A child of mine and Brad’s…shy????? Yea right.  So she kept trying.  We had our hopes up that we’d know today. After about 3-5 minutes, there it was: PENIS!  Actually at this point it’s more testicles than penis, but still.  It’s a baby boy!!  When I first saw the face on screen I knew it was a boy.  Brad later told me when he walked in and saw the face, the first thing he thought was “Whoa, that looks like me when I was a baby.”  Our new addition is a boy.  The names we had picked out were girls.  So we need help!  Leave boy name suggestions in the comments please!

At 20 weeks, we’re halfway through already.  It’s flying by.  We’ve started painting the nursery, so maybe the next post will have pics of that.  It won’t be finished, but you’ll be able to see the progression.

Weight:
Pre-pregnancy: 140lbs
Week 17: 146.4
Week 18: 148.9
Week 19: 150.6
Week 20: 154.4

-Momma and baby must’ve had a growth spurt…I gained 8 pounds this month…yikes
-We have officially started the nursery!
-Oh, and did I mention, IT’S A BOY!

Symptoms:
-Bad sciatica pain

Pregnancy – Weeks 13-16

16 weeks pregnant

Alright!  I have energy again; what a feeling!  After being pretty lethargic for many weeks, I feel like a functioning member of society again.  At the beginning of 13 weeks I started back exercising.  My routine has become walking 2 1/2 miles about 5 days a week, and doing prenatal yoga. Initially I intended for the yoga to be a daily thing because it just feels so good, but honestly as busy as I’ve been the average is more realistically 2-3 days a week.  Another thing that has returned is my appetite.  It’s not any different than normal though; no huge cravings and extra helpings here.  I’m sure that’ll come, though. On August 12th, 2011, we heard our baby’s heartbeat for the first time.  At first we couldn’t hear it, but the doctor was comforting and said not to worry because it takes awhile to find.  Then all of a sudden, bam!  You hear it and it’s so fast!  It was 150-160bpm. It’s starting to feel more and more real :)

For the most part this was an easy month.  Toward the end of 16 weeks though, I feeeeel pregnant.  I’m achy and…..gassy. Sexy, huh?  The gas is the biggest

15 weeks pregnant

change, because I can’t control it!  Sorry if this is too much information for some of you, but all you momma’s out there, you understand!!  The only frustrating thing that happened was one night on our walk, my ring was stuck on my finger! I tend to get claustraphobic, and I hated this feeling so much!  I couldn’t get my ring off!!  So I googled what to do (don’t you love the internet) and then soaked my hand in cold water for 3 minutes and it came right off.  Whew!  Now I know not to wear my ring on walks because pregnant woman’s fingers tend to swell when doing physical activity. So anyone who sees me exercising will think I’m an unwed mother. Eh, whatevs. I know better :)

14 weeks pregnant

Brad and I started playing music for Sprout this month.  It’s not a regular thing, more like when we think about it and the headphones are close!  Here’s what Sprout’s been exposed to, musically, so far:
“Smile” – Written by Charlie Chaplin, performed by Nat King Cole
“I Love You (For Sentimental Reasons)” – Sam Cooke
“Night and Day” – Joe Pass
“Clair De Lune” – Debussy
“Fool on the Hill” – The Beatles
I know that’s kind of an eclectic list, but we love all kinds of music!  I’m so excited thinking about all the songs we’ll have played for Sprout before he/she gets here!

Pregnancy – Weeks 9-12

12 weeks pregnant

Yay for 9 weeks!  Why you ask?  Because now I actually have a doctor’s appointment to confirm what I already know…I’m a mommy and Brad’s a daddy and Charlie’s a brother! On another note, the simplest tasks are leaving me out of breath.  I always take the stairs instead of the escalator at the airport, but one day this week I was panting so hard at the top you’d of thought I just ran a few miles!  This is NOT a feeling a like.  But I guess I’m ok sharing some oxygen with my baby; they need it, too :)

11 weeks pregnant

Brad has been so sweet already.  The only thing I’m really eating is soup, and he’ll go get it for me when I don’t feel like doing anything. He’s constantly asking, “Is everything ok; everything alright?” but more in a joking way to annoy people around us. It gives me a good laugh though it makes some of our family gag.  Too bad!

July 15th, 2011, a little after 9AM, we saw our baby for the first time.  What a cool feeling!  It was just a little bean shaped person with a full beating heart and arms were fluttering all over the place!  Although, I still don’t “feel” pregnant.  Yes, I’m nauseous and tired but I could just as easily have the flu!  I WILL love my baby so very much, but I can honestly say some days I go almost all day without rubbing my tummy and saying hello, because I forget!

10 weeks pregnant

The same week we first saw “Sprout” (what we call baby Skistimas) was also the week we moved back into our house.  For those that follow us, you know last summer we sold everything and leased out our house and traveled the country in an RV for a year.  We intended to do this longer (and we WILL be doing it again WITH an additional 4th being) but sometimes timing just works out in a different way.  I’m excited to be back in our house while pregnant and with a newborn, but cabin fever is already setting in, and I know Brad and I will both be so ready to get back to touring next summer and Fall.  This is definitely a welcomed break, though.  We haven’t been “home” for more than 2 months since 2006!  Stability is kinda making me crazy; I like chaos :)

So far I’m still in regular clothes…no stretchy pants yet!  I know it’s coming, but I’m in no rush.  I have noticed my fingernails are growing wicked fast and pretty strong; I have to clip them every week. My hair is in bad need of a trim, so I can’t really tell if it’s looking healthier or not.  OH, and I can’t believe I didn’t mention this in the last post…Holy Boobs Batman!  Ok, I don’t know what that means. But anyway, my boobs have grown so fast and they hurt soooo bad.  It’s kind of an unfair thing to happen for your husband.  You have a GREAT rack that you don’t want to be touched at all.  Poor guys.

Weight:
Pre-pregnancy: 140lbs

Week 10: 144
